Daveed Diggs is an American actor, singer-songwriter, and rapper. Daveed Diggs is the son of Barbara Needell and Dountes Diggs
Daveed Diggs’s mother Barbara Needell is a social worker and his father Dountes Diggs is a bus driver named Dountes Diggs. His mother is Jewish, and his father is black.
His parents named him “Daveed,” which is the Hebrew pronunciation of the name David. “‘David’ means beloved in Hebrew,” Diggs says. They spelt it with two Es because my father liked the way it looked.”
Daveed Diggs’s parents’ ethnic and racial identities influenced his own sense of self: “The cultures never seemed separate—I had a lot of mixed friends.” When I was younger, I identified as Jewish, but I also embraced my father’s side.”
Daveed Diggs attended Berkeley High School and Brown University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in theatre arts in 2004.
Brown recruited him for his track abilities, and as a sophomore, he broke the Brown Bears’ school record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.21 seconds. He worked as a substitute teacher after graduating.
